I’m officially one month away from leaving the old day job and embarking on the noble venture of making my living as a full-time musician. I have mixed feelings- on one hand, I wish I hadn’t had to spend so much of my time toiling away at a day job in the first place, and on the other hand, I feel like all the experiences I’ve had were probably essential to getting me to this point. I recently re-read Hesse’s Siddhartha and the part where Siddhartha casts off his life of wealth and excess in the city really resonated with me this time around. While upset with himself for having gone to such depths, he realizes that these experiences were a necessary part of his life. So it goes. Either way, I feel ready and excited and determined. My friend asked me today what it was like and I said, “A bit like taking a big, deep breath before jumping off a cliff.” So there you have it….it’s basically adventures in cliff-diving?
So in this spirit, I give you one of my favorite moments from one of my favorite movies. It really sums up how I’m feeling right about now.
It’s all happening.
