2021 Round-Up: …and we’re back! Student Releases + Personal Updates

Hey hey y’all!

Happy 2022. I know I speak for many of us when I say: WHEW WE MADE IT.

2021 was, for many of us + certainly for me, one of the hardest + most profound years on record. I taught entirely remotely, went the longest I’ve ever gone without playing a show (insert cry-emoji here), tried out some new scenery, adopted a puppy (Ponyboy Holland, the apple of my eye + chaos monster), rode out + evacuated a Category 4 Hurricane (shoutout to Ida, or - not), took classes, fell in love, wrote a new album that I’ll be releasing under a brand-new solo project name in 2022, and generally did my best to white-knuckle my way through surviving it all.

It was both a blur + a beauty.

In a lot of ways, going into 2022, I feel a bit like I’m picking up energetically where I was cut-off abruptly in March 2020. I took a much-needed breather from social media + writing for this blog (as much as I hated to, it was necessary) while I tried to keep Caveness afloat, both for myself + my wonderful clients after 6 years in business. If I’m being honest + gentle with myself, the break from social media was how I preserved my energy for my lessons + work with clients; but it was a bummer to fall so seemingly-silent. The reality is, I can see in hindsight that in my hibernation I’ve been percolating + crystallizing a lot of really great stuff that perhaps needed that time + space.

I’m feeling a new sense of carpe-ing the diem, if you will, and I’m realllllly excited to dive back in full-force.

Which brings me to some WAY overdue brags about student releases from 2021!

Holy shit, did my students not only not let up, they put out some amazing new music, a lot of them for the very first time(!), and realized their dreams + goals of launching their projects + putting their music out into the world. I’m so beyond floored and proud of each and every one of them.

Here’s a playlist of some of those releases - go check them out + support them!

As for me, I will be back on here with some new vocal musings - and new music of my own! - in 2022.

Thanks for being here + being a part of this little corner of my universe <3
